On the north-east side of the town, near junction 6 of the M65, Whitebirk Industrial Estate and Greenbank Technology Park are home to manufacturers, engineering firms and distribution businesses. The gas plant here includes process burners on curing and drying ovens, boiler and steam plant, and heating for large production and storage buildings.
Next to junction 5, Shadsworth is made up of modern warehouse, production and office buildings, many heated by suspended radiant or warm air heaters, with commercial boilers for the offices.
Blackburn and Darwen still have many converted textile mills that now house several businesses. Older boiler plant, long runs of pipework and buildings that have been altered over the years mean that tightness testing, pipework labelling and safety inspections are especially important here.
