Care homes in Preston face some of the strictest gas safety obligations of any commercial premises. With CQC inspections, HSE enforcement, and Local Authority oversight all in play, a care home manager cannot afford gaps in their gas safety records — and a standard commercial boiler service simply isn't enough.
SMR Gas Maintenance Ltd specialise in gas maintenance for the care sector. We currently maintain gas systems across a portfolio of care homes throughout Lancashire — and our service goes well beyond what most commercial gas companies in Preston offer.
What Preston competitors don't provide
Most commercial gas engineers in Preston focus on factories, warehouses, and industrial premises. They issue CP15 and CP16 certificates, service commercial boilers, and move on. What they typically don't offer is the full compliance package that care homes specifically require:
What does a care home gas safety inspection involve?
A thorough care home gas safety inspection goes well beyond a standard boiler service. Our engineers carry out a full check of every gas appliance on the premises — boilers, warm air heaters, gas fires, kitchen equipment and any other gas-fired appliances — producing a full gas safety record for each one.We also carry out servicing of thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) and thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs), critical in care home settings to prevent scalding of vulnerable residents. Legionella remedial correction works, where identified in a Legionella Risk Assessment, are also carried out and fully documented.
What is a CP17 certificate and does your care home need one?
A CP17 is a commercial gas safety inspection certificate for commercial heating systems. If your care home has a commercial boiler or central heating system — which most do — you are legally required to have this inspected and certified annually by a Gas Safe Registered engineer with the relevant commercial competencies. A CP16 covers commercial heating and hot water appliances. These are not the same as a domestic CP12 and must only be carried out by a suitably qualified commercial gas engineer.
CQC-ready engineers packs for Preston care homes
One of the things that sets SMR Gas Maintenance Ltd apart is our ability to produce full engineers documentation packs for care homes — asset registers listing every gas appliance on site, full service schedules, individual appliance cheat sheets for staff, commissioning records, and a complete maintenance history. Everything a CQC inspector or Local Authority officer needs to see, in one organised pack.
Why care homes across Lancashire trust SMR Gas
We understand that in a care home environment, reliability isn't a nice-to-have — it's a safeguarding issue. Heating failures, compliance gaps, and poor documentation can directly impact residents' welfare and put a care home's registration at risk. Our engineers work quickly, professionally, and with minimum disruption to residents and staff. If your care home in Preston, Leyland, Bamber Bridge, Chorley, Blackburn or anywhere across Lancashire needs a specialist gas maintenance contractor who truly understands the care sector, contact SMR Gas Maintenance Ltd today.
